We try to save a tree whenever we can, so we've been
using cloth napkins forever.

I have to chuckle when reading about finger bowls though.
Can't remember what movie it was, but somebody DRANK what
was in the finger bowl. At our house, someone would inevitably
spill any liquids on the table, so it's easier to just get
part of a tea towel or napkin wet or ask the kid to quickly
go wash her hands or face.

I remember a movie with some lug nut character drinking the fingerbowl...Woody Allen jumped right into my mind but it could have been someone else.

I googled and did not find fingerbowls in movies.
Found this article though:

We've been using cloth napkins for years. At the time, not to be "green" but because I'm cheap. LOL

Laziness will make you work harder than any other motivation on earth, in my experience!

My family always ate with cloth napkins. Nowadays, in my own kitchen, there are no paper towels. I only have rags and napkins, so it eliminates a lot of unnecessary paper waste.

Paper towels do have ONE use in my kitchen; wiping grease out of the skillet.

I have never even had cloth napkins and the only time we use them is when we go out....lol....

In my defence I had 5 kids and not a one of them had a paper diaper so I feel that when I rip off a sheet of paper towel to use as a napkin I am still ok.....lol....

I have actually been contemplating switching to cloth napkins. I have already made a great effort to use fewer paper towels and am buying fewer in order to make myself use less.

I really wish I had started using cloth diapers instead of disposables. But I was young and didnt really think about it back then. Now David is potty trained and Amelia can only use Seventh Generation Disposables but I feel that we should be close to potty training and dont want to invest the money in cloth (trust me I looked into it when she started having allergic reactions to other brands because at that time the closest place that sold them was toys u us and hour away down in Savannah,ga but fortunately now the Target in Bluffton,sc which is 30 min away carries them). Plus I already have a hard time keeping up with laundry because my el cheapo machines that are now 5 1/2 years old can only wash a small load on the large setting and get all the soap out. But that will be solved in a month or two after hubby reenlists and gets his bonus. And then my laundry room will be as green as I can make it!
