Whats a Spring Onion????????

O.K. Im back and with another stupid question......I have been substituting Shallots for spring onions in all my recipes that call for them.....simply because I cany find them at the super market.Could they also be called Boiling Onions?????? Thanks for any info you might have.Wuzzy
