I do know what you mean about worrying if they will be on the street. We were lucky in that our parents did save for retirement, and lived frugally out of habit. We had some tense moments when my FIL had to go into a nursing home temporarily. We couldn't answer the questions about his money, and he wouldn't. At the time, we were worried that the home wouldn't accept him, and they were the only ones with an opening. Luckily, they took him in, maybe assuming that he would receive Medicaid, if he didn't have the money himself. I really don't know; it was like pulling teeth to get anything out of him about his money. One thing that he did that left us in a pickle, was that he promised things to relatives to receive after he died. If we could believe them, there were several things that he had promised to leave, that were not in his will. Boy, did we ever have trouble with that.
