For ME, it is the ELECTRIC CAN OPENER...

I hate those things...and yet I feel I have to own one.(lol)

I hate it when you go to pick off the lid that is dangerously hanging there, the magnet holds it and any juice or sauce on the lid "Flings" when you take it off.

The garlic press! Leaves a lot of good garlic stuff in the gadget. Just hammer that garlic clove between the chopping block and the side of your knife, scoop it in the pan and BAM! Great "gah-lic" flavor! And it's kinda, fun, too!

I also had a Handy Chop (called something like that), you know the little manual chopper where the blades rotate as you push down to chop? Well, the blades were dull and didn't cut, plus they did not go down all the way to the surface I would chop on anyway! I tried that thing once and then tossed it away.

My dad is famous for buying useless thing for the kitchen. And it completely frustrates my mom. They have electric knives, electric can openers, blooming onion makers, ultimate pancake pans, electric bagel slicer, etc. And my mom is an old fashioned cook who only uses wooden spoons and a couple pots and pans. She just lets them collect dust and then throws them away when my dad forgets about them! Occasionally he'll ask her where one of them is and she has to come up with a good story!

I would have to say the electric knife! I remember watching my family fight with theirs every single holiday to cut the turkey, ham, etc. They would have finished sooner had they simply used a regular carving knife! And wouldn't you know it, a few years ago, my MIL found an old one in her mother's kitchen and gave it to us. Hubby tried it one time for about 5mins, tossed it in the trash and grabbed the regular knife. Turkey came out great, too!! lol

As for the Handy Chopper....I've heard that about the ones from television/stores. I bought one from Pampered Chef last year, and it sits smack on my countertop! :) It works like a charm, and really saves time from having to break out the processor every time I want to mince something really small.
