Anise Biscotti gone amuck...

I found a recipe for Anise Biscotti that sounded great! I put the ingredients together - they seemed a bit dry. I cooked them up in bricks, then sliced the bricks to rebake, hoping for some delightfully crisp hard cookies. Instead they turned out like baked cookie dough. Ugh.
Does anyone have a recipe for Biscotti that has turned out good for them? I have a dairy allergy but can use soy oleo instead of the milk products. I think if I got a basic biscotti recipe, I could season them any way I wanted. Got suggestions?
