Question about Avocados

Hi, I'm making a Tex Mex dip for a party tomorrow that includes mashed avocadoes. This is my first time working with avocadoes. They were very soft and ripe. When I peeled them, the inside was darker next to the pit, almost brown. Does that mean they are bad? Or is that normal for a ripe avocado. I don't want anyone getting sick on me.

Thank you.

In my experience that's pretty normal. If it were black or something else really funny I might worry but otherwise I think thats just the normal color near the pit. Hope that helps.

Hi Cara... I agree with Em... here's a pic that I found ...

I think those avocados that have no brown have been scraped or something.

Thank you to you both. Now I can rest easy. I just found this board and it looks like a good one!
