I'll be watching tonight. Do not know for how long - I have a very nasty cold and will probably won't last too long - I love watching the pre-show red carpet arrivals. Just love Joan Rivers take on the whole thing. She is rude, but most of the time she is right on.

I heard something about how "Oscar" got his name, but for the life of me I can not remember - must be this cold fogging my brain (LOL)>

We'll probably watch at least part of it. Not sure, tho.

I looked up where the name Oscar came from, because I wasn't sure if what I'd heard in the past was correct. It was. http://www.oscar.com

Q. Why are Academy Awards called Oscar?

A. How the statuette got the nickname Oscar isn't clear. A popular story has been that Academy librarian and eventual executive director Margaret Herrick said that it resembled her Uncle Oscar. A reporter allegedly overheard her and helped brand the golden guy. In any case, by the sixth Awards Presentation in 1934, Hollywood columnist Sidney Skolsky used the name in his column in reference to Katharine Hepburn's first Best Actress win. The Academy itself didn't use the nickname officially until 1939.

Tracy, you're probably much better off NOT watching much television.

ROFL! You must be referring to Bjork! Was it a swan? I wasn't sure - I was thinking Goose myself.

Her music is interesting - some of it I really like.

My most recent favorite Bjork song is Army of Me (I say recent not as in the song itself is recent)

Anyways - I didn't watch the oscars - hvent for a couple years - I have too many kids!

Where is that appalled icon? I also loved LOTR ....BUT.... I think it was also a LOT of hype (the books were way better anyways). Johnny Depp SO deserved an award for Pirates! He has always been such an amazing actor - never a sell out.

Orlando Bloom should have won for "Best looking supporting Actor" LOL. Of course I think he should also just marry me but whatever....

Well, hate to say it but i am so bored with Billy Crystal as host - i'd rather see Ellen Degenerous host the show - or Steve Martin - they should all take turns. It was a pretty boring show altogether. I guess it had to be tame due to the threat of an ''indecency'' delay.

Loved Charlize, Catherine Z, Angelina, Jennifer Garner, and surprisingly i liked the flouncy dress Sandra wore. Did NOT like Renee's dress, or the green thing Scarlett wore (she looked more like 30 than 20), we're all so tired of the Annie Hall look, but Uma had to be the worst dressed and Marcia Gay Harden had the worst hairdo.

And dont ya just love Johnnie Depp ... sigh :)

As far as the speeches went I thought Charlize rang the most true and Renee's was the most overly scripted. I liked the guy that said he'd written I Love You in a note to his wife in 8th grade and now was his chance to say it before millions - sweet.

The best entertainment part of the show was the song for The Triplets of Belleville and Will Farrell and Jack Black who sang a funny song. The winners were all so predictable with LOTR taking it all except thankfully leaving an award for the classy Sophia. And my favorite movie was Finding Nemo so i was glad it won something :)
