changing my profile photo

changing my profile photo

I have followed the tutorial on changing my profile photo but when I hover the image which is a ivillage logo and click change image it asks me to load a photo and I do but it just ends up in "my photos" and not as my profoile photo. What am I doing wrong? I have the photo I want in my photo album here but I cant seem to get it to load a new avatar.
