I'd get a guide book (Fodor's or something) and do some research. There's a lot to see there! I'd recommend San Francisco a lot, if you want to drive that far. Tons to do there and a great place to visit. Lake Tahoe is pretty. I'm sure there's plenty in the LA area, too, but I've mostly only seen Disney and Knotts Berry Farm. I'd like to visit San Diego, too. I hear it's wonderful, but I've only drive through (on the way to Mexico). I'm sure you'll find plenty to do! How fun!!!!

I don't remember Knott's Berry Farm at all - I went in high school on the way back from a mission trip to Mexico. As far as I know, it's really just a theme park.

I loved San Francisco - the first time I went, I was 12 or 13. Golden Gate park, walking along the waterfront, seeing Lombard Street (shortest/windiest street in the world), China town. It's all nice. But it's a long drive from LA, so you'd have to decide if it's worth it.

I really didn't love DL like I love WDW. But it's neat to visit, of course, anyway. I'd go again, if I had reason to be nearby. But I'm sure you can feel some of Walt's magic there!

Hooray, M'Shel! So exciting!! Obsessed? Look who you're talking to - we're all Disney-obsessed! LOL Twice now Alan has given me the "maybe" for Disneyland/D23 and then the Disney Cruise and then they were both no-go's :( However before he gave me the red light, I had already bought the Passporter books for both DL and DCL. I was so sad when they came in the mail (but I still read them! LOL). There's a suggestion - the Passporter for DL has info on other places to see nearby.

The only time I was in CA was in '95 on the way back from our honeymoon in Hawaii; we stayed 2 nights in San Fran. Went to Fisherman's Wharf, saw Ghiradelli, saw Alcatraz from a distance, the Golden Gate Bridge, we went on a ship/submarine? Not sure what it was but it was a little tour.
Nowadays, I'd add on a visit to the Walt Disney Family Museum :D

Anyhoo, can't wait to see DL through your eyes.

M'Shel, let me know if you need info on hotels or anything. Unless you really want a Disney hotel, I 100% recommend staying off-site. The hotels are all walking distance (<10 minutes) to the park entrance. And there are a bunch of restaurants on the hotel side of the park. Even a Cold Stone, right across the street from the park entrance! :)

M'Shel - here's the site that helped me the most: http://www.accommodationsneardisney.com/Disneyland/default.asp

See the red square on the right of the parks that says "Pedestrian Entrance"? That's where you have to walk to. I'd recommend selecting a place on Harbor Blvd. between Katella on the South and the Howard Johnson on the North. We stayed at the Howard Johnson, and it was a 10-minute walk to the entrance (with a 2 and 4 year old). So, super-close, even though it was one of the further choices.

We've only been there once, so I can't really say much about the hotels, per se. What we usually do is look for reviews/ratings on Expedia and choose based on a combo of price, location, and rating.

Now, we are generally a little snooty, hotel-wise. Not high-brow, really, but we don't like a cheap little 2-star place, just to save money. (Usually - we're actually considering it on our next WDW trip.) Because we're scared of germs and bed bugs and stuff so we hope a "nicer" hotel will be safer.

But, that being said, we stayed at the HoJo, based on ratings/reviews and we didn't regret it at all (it seemed nice for a HoJo, to me).

Let me know if you have questions. I also have a friend who has had annual passes there for years, so I can ask him if there's something specific you want to know.

California has sooo much to do!! I have lived here most of my life in nor Cal.

If you go to san fran its quite a ways from So cal. But the kids would LOVE LOVE it! There is so much to do! The wharf, Shopping, China Town, Gherridelli Choc Factory, Ripleys, Wax museum, Art, Exploratariam. Sf Zoo is great too.

Now onto So Cal which is what I am assuming you want to know more about. I loved Midevil times when I was a teen. It is a dinner theature interactive type thing. Where the nights joust and put on a show while you eat a midevil dinner with no untensils! So cool. Then theres Sea World, Knotts, Hollywood, Universal, and the beaches of course! So much to do!! If your going to be making a vacay out of it theres a southern Cali pass that has a park hopper for DL Ca Adv and then it includes a couple other so cal parks... for one price. Google it. But I just saw it while researching my April trip.

Maybe you want to look outside of the DL area for a hotel or condo. Sicne you will have a car you can drive and park at disney the days u go. You may find a cheaper and nicer palce further away.

Hoep this helps. :-)
