Based just on the first book, The Hunger Games, who is your favorite character and why?
What was the most emotional part of the book for you?
Which character do you identify with most?
Assuming she has the chance to choose, who do you see Katniss with? Gale or Peeta?

Guess I'd better answer my own questions, although they almost mirror yours! LOL
Based just on the first book, The Hunger Games, who is your favorite character and why? What was the most emotional part of the book for you? Definitely Peeta. He is everything that is good in mankind and it flows from him so naturally.
What was the most emotional part of the book for you?
Which character do you identify with most?
Katniss; I think part of it is because I see some of myself in her. I lost my father at a young age, and being the oldest child at home, felt like I was responsible for taking care of the rest. Not that things were as dramatic a sitation as Katniss faced, but still, I could identify with those emotions. I love her strength, determination and loyality and the fact that after all she's faced, she is still has empathy and compassion for others.
Assuming she has the chance to choose, who do you see Katniss with? Gale or Peeta? I'm torn... I think she deserves to explore her relationship with both. With Gale, she was torn away from him before she could hear his parting words and I think that does a lot to make her wonder "what could have been". And with Peeta, she's having to pretend for the Games and part of her is questioning just how much is pretend and how much could be the beginnings of a real relationship.
I think in some ways, she and Gale are too alike to last; Peeta balances her in my mind. My gut tells me that Peeta win her heart in the end.

Glad to see someone new jumping into our discussion! I love the different viewpoints.
I don't want my perspective to be clouded from what I've read so far in book 2, but I don't feel quite the same way about Gale. I think he was in an impossible situation watching someone he loved, maybe more than anyone, be sent to her death. I think his attitude is because he has watched what is so obviously wrong for so many years and he isn't the type to just roll with it. For him, he has something worth fighting for, and I think Katniss wll realize this - she already does when she thinks about her family.
