I can't believe I haven't heard this story until now! Can / Do you judge a presidential candidate based on how they treat their pets?

"The tweet was a not-so-thinly veiled swipe at G.O.P. presidential front runner Mitt Romney. Earlier this month Newt Gingrich released an attack ad against Romney that honed in on the what's likely to be known as Dog Gate. As The Boston Globe reported in 2007, some 25 years ago Romney had strapped a dog crate--with his Irish setter Seamus inside--to the roof of his station wagon for a 12-hour family road trip from Boston to Ontario. Making matters for Romney worse, it came to light that during the infamous trip poor Seamus suffered from diarrhea in his crate, which the would-be presidential candidate handled by hosing the dog off at a gas station and putting him back on the car roof."
If you were a fan of Mitt Romney before, does this make you reconsider or feel differently?

I think that the treatment of pets now as compared to 25 years ago we've all learned something.
I think if he were abusing animals I certainly would not vote for him.

I had to chuckle at "Dog Gate."

How can any animal owner think this is acceptable treatment?
For me it wasn't as much about what he did 25 years ago as it is what his response to this was.
I think you can judge people by how they treat their pet or how they treat animals in general.
