I've posted before on my chow/husky mix Rolyx, but I'm sure not many remember. I've had rolyx probably around 6 months now and I've been through a lot with him.

When I had my Ylab, ^Valentine^ she would often go "over the top".....I would put her in a sit/stay but her whole body would vibrate to the point where I would start laughing at her trying to calm herself.....

To start socializing Rolyx you do have to have more control.

Yeah Ro is much like your Valentine, where he is just too excited to calm himself around other people or dogs. I am a very dominant with my dogs, I believe in being alpha and having full control of them, but it's not so much a control thing as it is he just can't help himself. It's like putting a peice of chocolate in your mouth and then telling yourself not to swallow. I make Ro sit and wait for everything, from toys to eating to going outside to piddle...and yes, he is to sit before getting pets from friends or family, but this is proving to be more difficult regardless of the consistancy. Often we never get to the petting part because he just won't settle...he'll go into the sit, and then pop up soon as they reach out to pet him. We make him resit...rinse and repeat. I have taken him to my parents quite often and he has no 'settle' point. Hours will pass and he is still pacing around [we all ignore him, doesn't matter], it's like he's hyped up on something and no matter what you do...he can't come down off the high and just enjoy the time there. He's not like that at my place at all, he relaxes, chews on his toys and sleeps most of the night next to me.

We took him to park yesterday, was gorgeous day and would guarentee others there. He did well overall,
