More Frustration

The Pack Committee Meeting tonight was very frustrating.
1. Found out that Bear leader is going to quit at end of school year... we only got her started in October.
It sounds like it was a terrible meeting. I feel so bad for you. Our Bear den leader is stepping down, too. We've known for 2 months now and still there isn't a parent wanting to take it on. I do have a parent who will take it if no one else does, but that's not the same as someone wanting to do it. Right?
I'm sad about your Crossover not being what you want for the boys and yourself. FWIW, I'd probably take over since it doesn't sound like the other adults care about what is happening with it. Why does the cub master think their awards are optional? The boys should be getting all of their earned awards and some type of nice "something" to mark the significance of earning CS highest award. If the pack isn't going to do it then I would ask the parents to cough up the money.
Re: a nice recognition for you...I'll be honest. I didn't do a very good job recognizing the adult leaders for the Webelos the year my J crossed. Typically we give a really nice gift, but all of the adults involved with that group in a leadership way were staying involved with the pack with younger kids. I just didn't think to do anything since none of us were moving on to BS and leaving Cubs behind. Maybe your group is the same way?
The Army visit sounds terrific. The boys are going to LOVE it. I know you don't want the headache of doing the Spring Round-up, but dang -- that's an awesome carrot to hold out. Want to meet a soldier and sit in a humvee?!
It is frustrating knowing things need to be done and knowing other people are not going to step up to do it.
About the troop. It is so hard to let them decide without pushing your own thoughts on it - especially when you know that you will be involved with the group, too.
(((hugs)))
For crossover- I called the Boy Scout leader and decided to ask for their help since I'm not getting any help on the cub scout side... I asked for a reader for the one part and help in determining the order of events and set up... we will have a written plan when we leave the practice crossover next monday night. And I'll give the plan to the cubmaster and he can figure out what else needs to go where and he can do that as he always does- on the fly... just so long as the kid gets his webelos badge before we do arrow of light and crossover... order is everything!
And for the army visit- I'm really excited about the idea and I know it *could* bring in new kids/adults. I also know that won't happen unless we do the other background stuff with advertisement flyers, e-mails, publicity... that nobody wanted to consider last night... they aren't even going to discuss it until the next committee meeting- in April... that's getting too close to the deadline to organize and get stuff printed if the council will help us??? I feel it will be a big rush and I won't have time for that with my own personal life at that time- 1st Communion for my youngest, and some other big things happen in May... plus the day after our Army day is the 100th Anniversary whatever we are calling it for our county with Girl Scouts- including tables for every troop, food, crafts, archery, powderpuff derby, and tons more- so I'm sure to have to get stuff ready for that (days ahead of time).
