What do you think? Has your CS ever been asked to provide his/her log-in info or " become friends" by a coach, college recruiter, etc?

Neither of my boys have and I think that's over the top. I think one poster here - maybe Ma2Connor had his potential school ask to friend him on Facebook but I don't think they asked for his logon and password; in theory he could have friended them and then blocked them. I don't agree with this at all. It's not like parents trying to monitor their 13 year old for safety reasons - these people are adults.
But really, I like that what I post here, stays here. I don't like when I join a closed group on FB that I am seeing people's posts on my home page. What I put in those groups concerns my kids, and I don't want it open to everyone to see. I have some family that don't understand my family issues, the just judge. I don't need that. But everything seems to be going the way of FB, and I have to admit, IVillage boards seem to be smaller and smaller each time I look.
Sorry, not trying to hijack, just something that has concerned me lately. As far as students and employers - FB should be private. Not something that I would be happy giving out to anyone, especially the govt.

Log in info may be extreme, but on the other hand, what you post online can very easily be found by anyone. Posts every weekend of your underage binge drinking may not be what a school or employer is looking for.
Teaching college students, despite the life long internet access, they seldom block their social network pages. Maybe Facebook, but seldom Twitter or YouTube.
In this economy, really an employer has multiple good applicants for one position. They're going to pick the one without Drunk Walk Of Shame pictures all over. College may be public or private, but no person is guaranteed a college education. Private college may have stricter standards, but public college have more applicants.
No college student here yet, but 10 year old knows what college she'd love to go to, and understands that they will look at her internet presence. As will her middle/high school. They did that when I attended, and it's in the middle/high school student handbook.
