I LOVE the spring weather!! I love being able to take Ashley for a walk every night after work - now if only DH could get home in time to join us it would be perfect ;)

I'm hoping this week is better for us then last week.

Laura - Sorry to hear Ashley battled yet another illness, glad the eye issue is cleared up though. Are you thickening any of her bottles? If not, that would be a good thing to start just to give her more calories. You simply add 1 teaspoon of rice cereal for each ounce of fluid. You may have to enlarge the hole in the nipple a bit by using a clean, heated needle (or other suitable, sharp metal object).

Try not to let her skip the crawling phase - studies have shown that it is important to later development in reading skills (I'm not sure why, but they've done many studies that come to this conclusion).

We are having a problem with Jenna refusing the bottles again. She will sip about half the bottle and then thrust it at you as if to say NO MORE. We are only giving her 4 oz. bottles, but the doctor wants us to give her 6 oz. bottles - well, if we can't get her to take 4, what makes them think she'll take 6? She's also gagging on her dinners a lot if she gets a spoonful with too much rice cereal.

We haven't tried thickening her bottles, but I will keep that in mind if she doesn't gain weight this week. I'm definitely open to suggestions! I have been trying to introduce calories other ways (I've added bread with butted and cinnamon/sugar to her breakfast, etc).

Interesting about the crawling thing. I don't know how to make her crawl though? We give her plenty of floor time and she'll play on her stomach and reach forward while sitting, but has made no effort to get on her hands & knees (no attempts to army crawl either). Ive tried crawling around while playing with her and it just makes her laugh. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with our hardwood floors? We have very little carpeting in our house and crawling on the wood is tough?!?!

Sorry to hear about Jenna refusing bottles? Is it only frozen milk in there - maybe she only wants fresh. Or with Ashley we always have to try reheating it because she's very particular about the temperature of her bottles? Hope this is just a phase and it passes quickly

Angie is waking up so no time for a full post but I just wanted to comment on the crawling. That is the first I had heard about studies linking crawling to anything. Everything I have seen/read has said that some babies just won't crawl and that crawling isn't a required milestone.
But, either way, I understand about the hard wood floors. That is all I have in my house which is why Angie does the army crawl - when she hasn't had pants on this week (warm weather) she has gotten up on her hands and knees and started trying to crawl that way. I think it is also going to delay her walking since she doesn't really get practice at standing up so I have been taking her socks off when it is warm enough.
What I found with Angie is that I was too anxious to help her get her toys. You might want to put Ashley down on the floor with a ring of toys that are all out of her reach. She might end up surprising you and scooting around. Angie started by only moving small amounts and that eventually led her to moving greater distances - and she started with backwards movement before developing the strength to go forwards. But that didn't really happen until I stopped helping her get to things.
Just some tips to think about but I really wouldn't worry about it too much - you have enough to focus on with plumping her up :)

We have all hardwood or tile floors and Jenna will crawl on them - it is difficult at times though because they are slippery.

We've used up all my pumped milk :-( So she's getting 2 bottles of formula during the day. Doesn't seem to matter what we do to them, she just doesn't want it. We've even sweetened it with a bit of sugar after we realized how much sweeter breast milk can be.

Cynthia - I did some research on this myself two nights ago and found most of the reports supported what you said - that crawling isn't even

Laura - Jenna is sticking her tongue out all the time now too, and blowing some of the wettest raspberries. Our LO are definitely getting to a fun stage of development.

I always thought the whole crawling/learning connection was a bit weird myself (it was the topic of my mother's senior thesis when she was at college getting her education degree - and I always thought she was nuts), but then I've been hearing more of those same claims from more reputable "experts" in education. All I'm saying is make sure she eventually learns how to crawl. I never thought about the whole sleeping on their back thing as being a contributor to not crawling - maybe that's why they've also been pushing the use of tummy time.

AFM - Jenna has yet another runny nose! And I've definitely thought about switching her over to a sippy cup because she's always trying to grab Jesse's. I just have to convince DH and my father who care for her during the day when she usually gets the bottles.

Here at work report cards are all done, grade are all turned in, our second big production of the year was yesterday, and I'm chugging away at setting up the new computers for my tech lab. I just have to find other "homes" for the existing computers somewhere else in the building. Next week is Open House Tours for incoming families so everything needs to be in tip top condition.

Cynthia - Happy BIrthday!! And Yay for Angie's first tooth! I'm glade you've been getting out and enjoying this warmer weather. I've been grilling out just about every night that I can lately - so much easier and quicker than using the stove/oven.

AFM - same old daily grind today. I'm about half way through setting up the mew computers - I can't wait to get them in the lab and get the kids on them. I think I get to tackle a cart full of iPads after these computers are done. (yea rah. yet another project.)

It seems like Jenna is doing something new everyday and I'm just not noticing some of the little things. Like the other day she was crawling around and then when we looked at her next she was sitting. My mom was really shocked since the sitting independently and crawling were fairly new for Jenna - and I was like "yeah, she does this all the time." like it was no big deal. She also gets herself over to objects and before you know it she's standing up. We've taken to calling her "Ninja baby" because she's so quiet and stealth like that you take your eyes off her for a moment and next time you look back she's somewhere else doing something different and you never hear her move. She's also bound and determined to do anything she sees Jesse doing.

The other day she was funny, she was practicing her walking and would go between my mom and I, and Josh and I. But when I tried to get her to go to my dad she wouldn't have any part in it. She would go towards him, but the instant he reached out his hands for the trade off she would pull her arm down and put it behind her back. Then she started pulling some Matrix like moves, bending backwards away from him while still standing just to avoid dad reaching her.
