How do you motivate to clean?
| Sun, 03-25-2012 - 8:14pm |
My boyfriend and I have a serious issue of getting the motivation to clean.... and Im tired of looking at a dirty apartment! I have seen people say "treat yourself to a dessert at the end of the week or a pair of new pants," but that stuff doesnt motivate us! I would consider a treat, a cruise or nice vacation, but unfortunatly that just cant happen. What can we do to keep this place clean? Obviously putting stuff away right away or throwing a soda can after we are done with it, but what can motivate us to do it or get it burned into our subconcious so we just do it all the time? Please let me know what you do/have to say/or what you think, thanks! -Nina
One thing I do to get myself going is to choose the smallest, or least dirty, room in my house and attack it. For me it's the kitchen and I can get it looking pretty good in 15 or 20 minutes. That's not a deep cleaning, but enough to make me feel really happy.
So, you could attack it all room-by-room, or just 15 minutes at a time, or whatever works for you!
Another strategy might be to go to a room and take everything out that doesn't belong, then dump it in the room where it does belong. Don't get side tracked by taking a stack of bills from the living room to the office and starting to file them away. Just take them and dump them, then go back to the room you're working on. In my house, things area always ending up where they don't belong, so just doing this is a huge improvement. Finish one room, then start working on another.
So start tonight. Tell your BF you're setting a timer and you are both going to clean a room for 15 minutes. That's nothing!
Good luck and come report back to us!
1. Wash dishes
2. Clean coffee table
3. Do a load of laundry.
Once you finish these 3 tasks, check them off and write another 3 tasks. The key is only have 3 tasks at a time and don't start new ones before finishing the three you have on hand. Good luck!
