Should Americans be required to purchase health insurance?
| Thu, 03-29-2012 - 3:03pm |
Interesting debate topic. I see good points from both sides. What are your thoughts on the topic? Our iVoices have put up some videos with their views.
Healthcare Reform: Are You For or Against It?
One of the most controversial issues in healthcare reform is the mandate to buy health insurance. Should Americans be required to purchase healthcare? And is the government responsible for making that decision? iVoices Beth Engelman and Stephanie Stearns Dulli weigh in with their opposing views.

What is the difference between health insurance & auto/home insurance? In most of the states they require you to have auto insurance, if they can mandate then they can mandate you have to have health insurance.
Both my dh & I were born with heart defects {dh has a artificial heart valve & I have WPW} his was found at age 12 & mine at 42. It's not like we did something like taking drugs that damaged our hearts it's the way we both were born. I have a auto immune disorder & am on alot of medication for it, again nothing that I did, but it could be genetics or environment. We both need our health insurance.
What plans are those?
"And where do people who can't afford to buy plans now come up with the money to buy into an Obamacare? Oye:"
So everyone who is not currently insured now should just take their chances and rely on medicaid if something happens? Instead of providing subsidized plans that they can afford so that they are paying into the system while they are healthy and not using the insurance, they should pay nothing until they need it? That makes no sense. That is not how insurance works.
Everyone needs healthcare. Finding a way for it to be affordable to everyone is the only moral way to go. Allowing people to only pay into an insurance system only when they actually need it is ludicrous. Having well people as well as sick people pay into the system is the only fiscally responsible way to handle it.
No, Americans should not be forced to buy health insurance.
But everyone should be covered, period.
I don't think the question is should the government require us to purchase health insurance, it's can they.
"Resist, we much. We must, and we much. About that, be committed."

Yep.
I'm not saying people should wait to get sick, Are you?
This is simply not true, speaking from personal experience.
