Dang, I forgot that we need to pick up our new grill tonight! We bought it Saturday, but they couldn't assemble it until today. That probably means that I won't attempt to put in extra time today, to give me time to walk and pick up the grill before dancing starts.

DH, Sarah, and myself also went to see Hunger Games on Saturday. It wasn't bad. As usual, the book was better.

Dang, our phone system thought this weekend was the time change (for daylight savings), so it had jumped ahead. I knew it was wrong, but at some point I saw the time on the phone and thought the morning was flying by. And now I realize that it is only 10, and not 11. Pooh.

Still alive. . . . biggest tournament of the year started today. Too busy to say much until Wed. or Thurs., but I wanted to pop in and let you all know I was thinking of you. :D

Well lunch running was mostly productive. Got a couple pairs of pants and a shirt. The boys easter candy and a few things for the baby.

Didn't take the time to try the pants on at the store, so I will have to do that tongiht and hope they fit.

Back at work trying to sort through a swarm of stuff...

Hi everyone,

I'm at work. 30 minutes left in office hours, then I can hit the road. Just had a "you should consider dropping this course" conversation with three students from my Psychology Colloquium class. It's a required 1-credit course for first year Psych students. Only 7 in the class this semester, and three of them are failing. One has a D, and the other three have As. The ones who are failing, it's not because they do poor quality work or can't do the work, it's because they *don't* do the work. Then they want to "make it up" with 5 weeks left in the semester. Sorry, that's not my policy! Most of them *could* squeak by with the minimum C- necessary if they do perfectly on the remaining work, so they have all decided not to withdraw. Hope they can pull it off.

Okay, vent over!

Had a lovely, weekend. Spent Saturday running lots of errands...dropping the car off for servicing, grocery shopping, etc. Sunday DH and I went out for lunch, and then saw The Hunger Games. I agree with you Karen...I thought it was pretty good, but I preferred the book. I'm in the process of reading the second one right now.

This weekend, we'll be heading to DC to spend Easter with some long lost relatives of DH. He recently reconnected with his 80 year old uncle, who he probably hasn't seen in 25 years. Since Patrick's dad died quite young, he lost touch with that branch of the family. Should be interesting...we're staying with one of his first cousins, who he barely knows, and meeting up with lots of other first cousins. I hope it goes well...Patrick is really looking forward to reconnecting and having this link to his dad's branch of the family tree. We're going to take the train down on Friday and return on Monday...looking forward to doing a bit more DC sight seeing while we're there. Sadly, I think the cherry blossoms have already come and gone, so we'll miss those.

Stacy, glad your lunch time shopping trip went well!
Julie, enjoy your working from home day! I love days where I don't have to go anywhere! :)
Karen, enjoy your new grill! I hope picking it up doesn't interfere with DWTS!
Jill, hope the tournament is going well! See you when it's over! ;)
MJ, I'm impressed by all your yardwork! We haven't tackled ours yet. Things are blooming, but we really need to go around and remove leaves from the flowerbeds, add more mulch, etc. My guess is it's not going to happen for 2 more weeks! Oh well.

Enjoy the rest of your day everyone!

Becca, I just don't understand choosing not to do the work. That doesn't compute with me. First of all, it's a responsibility issue. Now, I've been told I am "over-responsible" (which probably means more to you as a Psych professor than to most), but I just don't understand taking something on, and then not doing the work that needs to be done. Second, it's a financial issue. Why pay for something and skate by? I get that one doesn't usually take only one class at a time as I have more recently, but even when I took a full load, I didn't just choose to skip assignments ... or class. It makes me sad to see people make those kinds of choices. Third, it's a learning opportunity. It's very hard to connect dots if you don't have all the dots to connect. When I take a class -- even if it's one I don't have a choice about taking -- I expect to LEARN from it, and that's what I WANT. I WANT to come out smarter with greater understanding of how things work and why. I can't grasp not doing assignments that facilitate the learning process. *sigh* Do they even understand how blessed they are to have you???? Well, I do. {{{{{HUGS}}}}}

I agree, Julie--I've never understood not trying or not doing the work. How the heck can you expect to have a "degree" in something if you don't do the work? It's students like that that make me think that they should wait a couple years untill they are more mature to be in college.

Now, this isn't the same thing, but I will totally admit that I stopped trying in a Literature class I had to take. The woman's expectations were ridiculous and finally I flat out just gave up. She even told me that I shouldn't be a teacher if I couldn't understand the content of her class. That's what made me stop trying but it was too late to drop it. We read Beloved in that class and I remember having to take a test, so I did it, but only answered questions with one sentence. When I was done, I think I sat there reading the book. In discussions, I just didn't answer the questions. Yeah, I know, I behaved like a fool with that class, but I was so irritated by her lack of help, that I just gave up.:catembarrassed:

Anyway, the plan for the rest of the day is that I am going to work on the cake. I am hoping dh will grill some pork chops on the grill--I have them marinating right now. The man makes some darn good meat on the grill! I am also going to work on the cake a bit more. I am hoping that using some ModPodge that says specifically it's for bonding paper to paper that the tiers will stick, but I don't know what else to use. Then I am going to try and finish up the medallion thingy that I am remaking for it. I was going to try and make a miniature wedding couple from my quilling stuff, but um, the way it went last night, it would probably be on the level of alien spiders. LOL...I can't master some of the "shapes" just yet, but I really should be practicing more.

Of course the Voice is on, so we'll be watching that tonight. I hope Mike and Molly is new tonight but I don't think it is.
