Dead Space Above the Cabinets... Creative Ideas?

Looking for something to do w/all the deadspace above my cabinets.
If it matters, the cabinets are white painted beadboard & sheetrock background is a blue/green color......which I wouldn't mind doing something to BRING OUT more the Greener tones.
Ideas?

I used to have stuff on top of my cabinets that were over my stove but I keep absolutely nothing up there now. Everything got so grease covered it wasn't even funny. I do have one set of cupboards where I do have a few 'theme' items but it's not in an area that will be impossible to clean.
This is something I'm going to do next time I clean above my cabinets that I hope will solve the grease problem. I read somewhere that you should put a layer of wax paper on top of the cabinets, and then you'd just have to replace the wax paper when it got greasy. Do you think that would work?
