The experts advise that thread be stored in a dark place, preferably in ziplock type bags to keep dust and humidity away from the spools. As thread ages (and light, dust and humidity will do it), it becomes brittle and will break frequently in the machine. With aging eyes, threading the machine over and over is NOT my thing.....so I have moved the thread from the handy pegboard storage to show box sized containers and put the spools in ziplocks by color...marking the outside of the box with the color of thread inside. When I get one of the sewing dressers cleaned out, I will transfer the bags to a drawer since the boxes DO take up a lot of space!
