its always something...

Back when there was Remodel and Renovate board I posted about getting a new HVAC system installed in Nov/Dec. The HVAC guy noticed a plumbing leak when he was under the house changing the ducts, and that took a while to get straightened out. I had forgotten that I needed a city inspection for the mechanical permit for the HVAC install, so this week I finally got that done. Wouldn't you know, the inspector says that there should have been an electrical permit pulled for the A/C (which we did not have previously). So he didn't approve the job and it needs a re-inspection after his points have been met.

I contacted the installer and he says that the electrical was included in the mechanical permit because he didn't add any service to the circuit box and that the inspector doesn't know what he's talking about etc. I got installer to agree to call the city and try to get it straightened out. I think I have until late May to get the initial permit approved or get an extention, not sure how all of that will work. I'm crossing my fingers that the installer is correct and that he can convince the city to send a different inspector, and get this thing done with.

Meanwhile, I talked to the plaster repair guy the other day. He had previously told me he could start my job in mid-April. It has now slipped to early May and I wouldn't be surprised if it turns into mid-May. I'll need to get a couple of painting contractors in here to bid on painting the rooms that get repairs, with the idea being that the painters follow the plaster guy so we don't have to move the furniture and dropcloth everything twice. We'll see if I can schedule painters around the moving target that is the plaster guy! Most of it will be a matter of pushing large furniture around the room, except for the library...like the name implies there are books--lots of them, and lots of other stuff too. Packing up that room will be a chore. I'd better start cruising the alleys on recycling day to see of anybody sets out boxes.

There's a fun project on the horizon too. A friend gave me a patio table and 4 chairs. Its smallish, wrought iron with an ivy leaf design on the table and a glass top. The chairs are like "cafe' chairs also with the ivy motif. The seats are off the chairs for storage, they are a thick-cushioned naugahide in a sagey green and in very good condition. The white paint on the table and chairs is flaking off showing a sage green underneath. I prefer a dark green, and I'm trying to think about how I can cover the naugahide of the chairs--cloth covers? I'm waiting until our rainy season is officially over, by the end of April, and then I can get the set professionally sandblasted then bring it home to paint it myself. Right now its sitting in the middle of my mess of a backyard but it will fit nicely on our back porch area for dining al fresco!
