According to Health Day News, being overweight can make your fibro symptoms worse:
"Obese people are not only at greater risk for fibromyalgia, they are likely to experience more severe symptoms of the condition, such as chronic pain, fatigue, sleep disturbance and mood disorders, according to a new study." READ MORE
I've never been obese--but I have been as much as 20 lbs. overweight. I lost the weight before FM came out full force, but I can certainly see how being overweight or obese can make symptoms worse. Being overweight causes many negative problems with ones health and everyday quality of life. I've maintained a healthy lifestyle through good choices with food, vitamins and exercise--however, my weight still fluxuates from being as much as 10 lbs. underweight to 10 lbs. overweight even without change in diet and exercise. Frustrating and depressing to say the least--I feel best when my weight remains stable at my optimine weight.

To answer your question, no I have not been keeping a food journal--never have. But, I've never had much of a weight problem. Unfortunately, when I got on the scales this morning I was up almost 4 lbs.--thinking most of it is water because I was good on Sat. I don't usually have a problem with retaining water, so who knows. I've been making good food choices and good portion sizes--the way I eat all of the time (lol). I even got in more exercise over the weekend. I picked up the loppers and trimmed branches and undergrowth from a 50-foot section of bushes along the driveway--then went back out after the temps cooled down, loaded it on a wagon and hauled it off the drive. Lot of arm usage, bending and stooping. I walk the driveway up and back (6/10 mi) to get the mail everyday--plus all the other walking when I'm at work. We just bought a treadmill, so I'm looking forward to getting on that too. I have degenerative discs and OA in the spine--so can't do running/jumping/twisting. But, I'm not going to give up (lol)--this weight will come off and stay off!

Well, I am a fatty. I have actually lost some weight, about 31lbs and it did not help reduce my symptoms, but maybe I need to lose more. I do know a woman that weighs 90lbs and she has way more symptoms than me and nothing really helps her pain and she used to be a fitness instructor and is a vegetarian. She is being checked for cancer too, so I am not sure I buy into all this about obesity causing fibro, however, I do believe being too overweight can add more pressure on you to carry it around and cause more pain. I mean it casues pain on your knees and feet more as well. Either way, fat or thin, people with fibro need to be treated better by the medical community. Hope everyone has a great day and low symptoms.
