Beginning readers other than "Bob"

Are there any other early reader series, similar to the Bob books, that you or your children liked? My little guy is starting to read the Bob books, but I'd like to find some other series / sets that he would enjoy so I can work with him over the summer. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Some of my kids really loved Bob books and learned to read very well with them.
My kids really liked the "Step into Reading" books. We didn't have too many of them but they were actually really cute and witty. Let's see "Cat Traps" was a favorite as was "Big Egg" so much so the kids read them longer than they needed too and wouldn't let me give them away in our last book purge (they are 11 and 15 now lol.) There are some Dr. Seuss books good for beginners like "Hop on Pop." "Henry and Mudge" is a sweet and funny series with a range of levels built in from very early to about 2nd grade.
