I was diagnosed with PCOS 2 days ago & am having a hard time adjusting. I went to the doctor thinking all would be fine with blood tests & found out, I have high insulin, high testostrone, high thyroid & PCOS. My father has been type 1 diabetic since I was 16 years old, & I have watched this stuff take its toll on my poor fathers health over the last 20 years. I am terrified of also developing it or worse one of the other problems PCOS causes. I did start my metformin 1000mg a day & the great thing is I am not so far suffering from the frequent bathroom dashes I was warned about by my doctor, instead I am having hot flashes & joint stiffness. Just curious does everyone experience this when first starting it & as the body adjusts it goes away? Also what diet works best ? I have 3 daughters I want to live to see accomplish great things. I am new to all of this & need someone wiser than me to make sure I am on the right path. Any advice would be great
Hi and welcome to the board. I think it's great you are trying to be pro-active and take control of your health early to prevent future problems. I don't have experience with metformin so I can't be of much assistance but do know other on this board are and will be able to offer you some help.

Welcome to the board. I am glad that you found us~! Sorry for your diagnosis, but the good news is you have one and you are getting help. Metformin is a good choice. It will help treat the core issue of insulin resistance. What you eat is also just as important. Low carb is the way for us to go. Eating right will help with any side effects. The first time I was on Met. I didn't have any side effects. The second I had some, especially when I ate a high carb meal. It is different for everyone. Hopefully you will continue to be side effect free.
Well, I hope we see you here often! Keep me updated and let me know any questions you might have. Take care, Laura
