Whats your favorite apple recipe?
I found something out that is different between here and there, the crockpot recipes I find for applesauce always ask for peeled apples and here we always uses the peel when cooking the apples because the peel contains pectine, colour and flavour and then using an applecradle/ applemasher to remove the peel and make the sauce smooth.
I been making alot of sugarfree sauce for E and she is loving it.
That's a great newsletter addition, Susan. Makes me feel really good about the huge load of apples we picked last Saturday. I love them. And I'm glad I have never been an apple peeler, nor are my kids. I will often slice them for us, but they never get peeled.
Susan your MIL makes a lot of applesauce. Does she peel her apples before cooking them?
I have not made applesauce in years and years. But when I did I did not peel the apples first. Just cored them and cut them up. Once they turned to muss I would put them through a food mill like this one to remove the skins -
Really not a lot of work. Actually an old friend of mine and I use to make big batches of it together. It was her grandmother's food mill we used. Of course I was a lot younger (about 40 years younger) and had more energy.
