Needing your prayers!

We had a really strange surprise today.  Fletcher had routine bloodwork as part of his "well child" check-up, and the results today showed dangerously high cholesterol.  Like RIDICULOUS numbers.  The doctor seemed shocked.  He asked about his diet and activity levels, and he couldn't really make sense of the numbers.  HDL was 265.  LDL was 144.  We are doing the tests again to rule out error.  I'm praying it was a big mix up of some kind.  Fletcher is very thin, extremely active, and he eats well.  We rarely have junk food.  We eat balanced meals and rarely eat out. Nutrition is a subject that I have thrown myself into since becoming a parent, and I take the business of feeding my kids very seriously.  I'm baffled.  Part of me is thinking it was an error, and the other part of me is scared to death that this is just a symptom of something else.  My frantic internet searches (I know I shouldn't do that!) suggest a kidney problem, metabolic disorder, or diabetes.

I'm scared.  Not sure what to think.

I really hope this was just a mistake with the tests. It really doesn't make sense with such a young kid (who is thin, active and eats healthy)

Please KUP!!

We took him to retest early this morning...6:40am!! I don't know when we will hear results. He has not had a cholesterol check before. This is the first well-child visit that Fletcher has had at our new doc in Florida. Apparently it is standard.

I'll let you know when I know more.

It really sounds like there was some sort of mix up -- apparently it happens quite a lot :smileysad: Has he had his cholesterol checked before? Was it normal then?

Sending lots of positive thoughts your way that there's a simple explanation.

Thanks, ladies.

Yeah, it's probably not the things Google is saying, but why would a very healthy, very fit 7 year old have the cholesterol levels of an overweight, sedantary middle aged person? Very weird. The doctor said it could be genetic, but no one in our family has had high cholesterol before their 50s. I guess we just have to wait and see.

I really appreciate your prayers and kind words!!!
