Dancing lessons for teen boys?
Sun, 09-30-2012 - 9:05am

As a grandfather, I would love to see my 2 grandson's enrolled in dancing lessons. My reason is two assist them meeting girls at HS dances and proms and later in life to share an activity both men and women could enjoy together for a lifetime.

Your thoughts on this idea are appreciated especially you women. Thanks Ed

Oh Ed, you are too funny.  I guess you're even a little older than me since by the time I was in high school we weren't doing the twist--I don't know if the dances we did had names.  My mom used to say that instead of learning an actual dance, the slow dances looked like the people were just hugging and rocking back & forth.  I have to say that if people do learn to do ballroom dancing, it is actually very sensual--think tango or bolero.  Unfortunately things have gotten a little out of hand at teen dances now.

1955? I was 3 so no I don't remember much! My oldest brother was born in 1945 (which I assume is your year of birth as well) and since I remember doing the twist when I was about 10yo I guess he would have doing it at HS dances then.

That thing about the skirt length persisted, at least at Catholic schools, until the mid-60s...at that point even they probably had to give in to the tidal wave of change. By the late 60s girls were starting to be allowed to wear pants to school (at least at public schools) and skirt length was becoming a non-issue.

<I noticed songs have lost the melody part too and I can't understant or hear the lyrics either.>

I would say that depends on the song. There are so many more musical styles that we can hear now, its not just whatever makes it into the Top 40 playlist. Do you have iTunes on your computer? Every week they give away at least one free download, I've heard/collected a lot of different songs that way.
