I had my 32/33 week (I'll be 33 weeks tomorrow) appointment today. We had a long conversation about the predicament we have found ourselves in when it comes to having any help at the time of birth. He suggested that we break my water on a pre-determined date (provided my body is cooperative) and go from there. My reasoning is this: I have NO ONE to watch my children locally. That means that DH will not be able to be in the hospital unless we pay through the nose for a sitter. After talking about our options, we decided that, unless she shows up, baby girl will be encouraged to show up on November 19th. That's 45 days from today. It's only 5 days before my due date - but my due date is wildly inconvenient (two days after Thanksgiving) and it is something that we can sort of plan on in the weeks to come. My MIL will start getting ready a week in advance of that date in case we need her to jump and run. It also works well because DH will be able to take the whole week off and my kids won't miss much school.

I feel a little strange because I wanted a no or low intervention birth. The fact of the matter is, I'm more stressed out about my kids being with a sitter and possibly coming home with no help!

Jules- I'm in the same situation. We have no family here and my parents are 5 hours away and my in laws are in Florida so if I did go into labor it would take them awhile to get here. My DH has one of his buddies from his group that is an older gentleman. In fact he has a bunch of grandkids and I think David may stay with him until after the baby is born. Our other friends we were considering she's also having a baby a few weeks before I am.

Anyone know where to get some nice dencent maternity tops without braking the bank? I got a lot of my stuff with David at JC Penney and my nice tops but they have olnly short sleeve online. It seems maybe they are getting rid of their maternity, I"m not sure. All I could find was Old Navy but saw a lot of bad reviews on their clothes. Kohls they didn't have much.I am looking for stuff to wear for jobs and stuff as I got a nice pair of pants at motherhood but their stuff is a pricey and don't really want to get a bunch of tops there too. I may try the consignment shop in town but I will call first before I make the trip over there,  and Burlington and see if I can find anything there first.

Jules and Sandy - Do you guys have neighbors that you can talk to. My neighbor down the street that we are pretty close to offered to come stay with Gabby until our parents can get here, or to even drive me to hospital.

hugs for both of you though. I know how stressful that must be.

Waving hi to everyone else. I have been reading.

I am feeling a little down and some pressure down below. This belly is getting HUGE! I mean really huge! and I am not even 35 weeks yet. I really think that my belly button is actually going to pop this time, it's getting super close.

Our remodel is still not done. I called the department of labor to find out what we can do and I have an appointment with a lawyer on Monday who specializes in construction claims and things like that. I am sad that it's come to this but I really need to get this stupid thing done. They just keep telling us that "next week the plumber will be here, or the front door will be in" and then next week comes and nothing happens and then they tell us the same thing over and over again. sigh....

Sandy,

Do you have an outlet mall near you? See if they have a Motherhood Maternity store. I bought some nice work pants and simple nursing bras there for very reasonable prices. You could also try eBay or freecycle. GL!

We actually live out in the country just far enough that we aren't really close to neighbors! I wish it could be a little simpler. As it is, there are two ladies from my husbands office who have offered to help out if we get into a pinch - but if it's on a weekday, we could be out of luck there, too. It's a pretty stressor to really get into. I wish we had been able to deal with our remodel (two hours away) a little more efficiently (DH SWORE UP AND DOWN he'd be DONE by now...guess who learned her lesson??) so we would have had more time to plug into our new hometown. We just still sort of live here during the week and live somewhere else on weekends. Ugh.

Jess - I would be so torqued. I think you're making the right choice. You have only a few weeks before your baby comes and your remodel has been dragging on almost as long as ours - and we don't have a contractor! DH is doing it all!

Sandy - I was able to find several pieces on the sale racks at Motherhood for this fall as soon as a few weeks ago. You might just go and commit to digging through the racks. I hate doing it, but I seriously found about six or so pieces and spent less than $150. Two of those were pants! I have found SOME basics at Target - but I sort of hate the fit.

I don't know if I mentioned this yesterday, but our little girl finally turned head down!!

We just don't know our neighbors. I mean we say hi casually but that's about it. That is why we are probably going to have David say with Dennis from church since David has been around him and knows him well already.

Thanks for all the responses. I may just have to break down at motherhood. The only problem I was there yesterday where I bought my pants and most of the sale racks are short sleeve and I"m looking for long sleeve. I also know Old Navy has a lot of decent stuff I may go there. I am getting a few pieces from a lady off of craigs list today but those are more casual and I really need stuff I can wear to interviews or a job once I get to that point.

Jules- That sounds super stressful. I cant imagine having to try to plan my birth around having someone available to help. Glad your doctor is being very helpful and supportive.
My problem is opposite. Too many people wanting to help out. All our family is close enough and they are already fighting over who gets to keep DD verses who gets to coe to the hospital. I already have my mind made up based on conscience only. My grandmother lives a block away (literally on the same street). She will be the go to one for DD. With DHs mom being the 2nd. My best friend, Sister, mom, and DH will be present for delivery.

Sandy- Maternity clothes are my struggle right now. I am a fluffy mom and have limited options. :-( I need to figure something cheap out. Last time I wore leggings (found at walmart and bought in normal clothes a size or two larger). And dresses I already had. So I brought all that out. Unfortunately for work we need to wear uniform shirts…so that’s problematic. I am going to need some pants. The belly band works to a point but some days I know it will be annoying and inconvenient. I shop sales and thrift stores….might be worth a shot.

Sand I still cant believe you are 16 weeks...it seems just like yesterday you got your BFP!

Jess- your remodel sounds like a nightmare! Good luck figuring something out!

AFM- My BOOBS are killing me. Def. do not recall this at all with my first pregnancy. :-( Trying to stay super busy as I still have 2 more weeks before my first appt! lol

Concerning maternity clothes:

Target maternity clothes were my favorite by far. They were inexpensive, trendy, and held up really well. I am all about accessorizing. I was teaching at a university through two pregnancies and working in an office through my first. I had mostly simple, solid tops. I would wear a solid shirt with jean shorts for casual days, and then I would pair the same shirt with slacks and layer pretty beaded necklaces or a dressy scarf for work. Shoes make a big difference, too. I could NOT afford a full wardrobe of both casual and dressy, so I made sure my clothes could do double duty!
