I have read on different message boards that it works for some people, but I also read one needs some kind of bloodwork before taking it.
I've used it before when I was having problems falling asleep. 2 mg was enough to help; I'd take it about an hour before I wanted to go to bed. But my doctor also suggested I use it short-term only, no longer than 2 weeks at the time.
We have also used 1mg for the kids and it does seem to help regulate their sleep.
