So, what is everyone's opinion on expirations on car seats?  I've read so much and I just have a hard time believing that you MUST have a car seat that's not expired.  If you have a car seat that is expired and you look everything up to see what changes or upgrades have been made and there aren't any or it's just styles....is it really necessary?  Opinions?

Hospitals check for carseat expiration and are not supposed to let ppl leave with their baby if the careseat has expired.

Online it's hard to read people's "tone". Obviously I didn't straight out say you were irresponsible. I said choosing to ignore the expiration date is irresponsible. Now that you are informed I am hoping you are choosing not to ignore it. :smileyhappy: you have to realize that unless I said YOU it wasn't directed at you but a generalization in reference to te topic. And yes some topics will be hot button debates- try not to take offense to differing opinions on here. I clearly stated that this is my opinion. I am glad you are looking for a new seat.

I would NEVER NEVER use a expired car seat. General wear and tear, extremem temperatures over time- all effect the safety of the seat. Theyhave expiration dates for a reason. Sure you might drink a day old expired milk if its not curdled and smelly- but would you drink it a week or a year past the expiration date!? Nah.

There are reasons for the expiration- as a parent we each have a responsiblity to keep our kid safe- and being aware of expirations and the reasons behind them and still choose not to follow that is very irresponsible in my opinion.

I recently had to have a conversation with one of my parents (I teach T-Kinder) who brought in an expired seat (very expired). She was NOT AWARE and ws sooo thankful. Once she researched it herself she told me she felt just awful for not realizing it before and thanked me for helping educate her on it.

Its a touchy subject with many- but if you can afford to replace an expired seat- go to the sherrifs department- sometimes they can help find you one that isnt.
