Warnings for formula mooted
Food Standards Australia and New Zealand are seeking consultation on the idea that "Breast is Best" statements on formula be replaced with a risk-based statement about the risks to infant health of not breastfeeding.
Health labels on baby formula are 'a bit much'
A proposal to put health warning labels on infant formula is a step too far, a Rotorua parent centre member says.
"I'm completely pro-breast feeding ... but some people have to use instant formula and you don't have to make them feel bad about it."
Warnings proposed for formula
Warning labels on infant formula will only stress out mothers already under incredible pressure, a Western Bay post-natal consultant warns.
"I work with mothers who have already made the decision to formula feed and it has been a decision they have had sleepless nights about," Katikati's The Baby Whisperer and post-natal consultant Vicki Kirkland said.
"They have read the risks, they are vulnerable and upset about it."
