The best time to pay off debt fast is when the economic outlook is uncertain. If things do end up going downhill economically, then it is certainly best to be in a position where all personal debt has been paid off. So you can pay off debt fast. All the best!

Hey Maree,

Have you looked into using debt settlement, consolidation, or anyother debt relief programs?

I use to have about 17k in debt a few years ago. I was 25, just married and went on a rampage. Anyways there are a lot of companies on the internet offering help in the debt relief area. Some of the top companies are Freedom, CareOne, My Debt Key. I would also recommend you read about debt relief services through the FTC's website here.

I ended up using debt consolidation to help my situation, but everyone is different. Choose a company who takes the time to know and understand your situation.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

I am with Novadebt.  It's my 2nd time to be in a debt management program. The 1st time was about 13 yrs. ago.  I never dreamed I would need to be in another program like this one again.  Credit card debt can creep up & you end up in over your head again.  At this point, I'm looking to be out of credit card debt in about a year or year & a half.  I upped my payment amount this past fall to speed up the process but I'm still struggling to juggle expenses.  It helps to know that there are others in the same boat.
