10 WAYS TO MAKE A SMALL ROOM LOOK LARGER

1. Use light colors to decorate.

2. Use a monochromatic color scheme on the furniture, rugs and walls. Select different shades and textures of your single color.

3. Add light to the room – natural light, skylights, solar tubes, and torchiere lights are all great options.

4. Avoid clutter.

5. Paint the ceiling a light color.

6. Add mirrors – they reflect light and color. Hang them directly opposite of the windows for maximum benefit.

7. Add a few large paintings or prints instead of many small ones, and place them strategically around the room.

8. Utilize tiebacks for the draperies so that the curtains don’t interfere with the windows – allow sunlight to enter.

9. Add at least two sconces to each wall in the room – these add lights to the room when there is no natural sunlight.

10. Keep the windows sparkling clean to make sure as much light as possible is coming through.
