Hi All,

Thanks you so much for making me feel better about "Mansfield Park". Let's post our most and least favorite classic!!!!

Love - "East of Eden" - Steinbeck

My opinion is based on my having read it in tenth grade. Didn't care for it, but I've never seen it performed.

We have a "Shakespeare in the Park" production here every year. While I have always appreciated Shakespeare's plays, when I was in college, I always enjoyed his sonnnets a little more. However, once I saw one of them performed, I was a total convert. It's amazing, those plays were meant to be seen, rather than read.

At the very least they should be read out loud.

With my memory how do you all expect me to remember my least & most favorite. LOL. Besides, I believe I've been reading longer than many of you have lived!!! LOL again!

I really liked "To Kill a Mockingbird" & East of Eden. I also liked the Grapes of Wrath.
Really disliked The Great Gatsby....don't care for Scott Fitzgerald. I detested "Crime & Punishment" by Dostoyevsky. Talk about rambling (the author, that is!)! Another awful book was My Sister Carrie (is that right?) by Theodore Drieser. dee

I agree with you about Shakespeare completely! They are PLAYS, they are meant to be heard & seen, not read. I wish more teachers would remember that. I had a Sr.English teacher who did when we read "Hamlet". She first brought in a made for schools recording (which we had a little trouble following, since it was "edited" for schools) It was a big improvement. Then she brought in a recording of Richard Burton doing it. Wow! I'd never really enjoyed Shakespeare until then.

I too hate Sister Carrie. I never even finished it.
As for Shakespeare. My favorite production is Franco Zefferelli's Romeo & Juliet w/Olivia De Haviland. Awesome!

Worst Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet w/Leonardo DiCaprio. Awful!
