I am reading Dreams of Trespass by Fatima Mernissi...the author actually was born into and grew up in a Moroccan harem, and it's a collection of stories from her childhood through the age of 9. It's fascinating! and her writing is beautifully lyrical as well.
I'm currently into a Sue Miller book, 'The World Below'. It's mid-life, women's literature and is about a 52 year old woman, twice divorced and feeling restless and unsatisfied in her life. She moves east, into her grandmother's old home and finds her diary's in the attic. After reading them she begins to put the pieces of her own life together.
I just started part III of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, called "Life, The Universe and Everything" by Douglas Adams. I'm enjoying this series...very funny and wacky.
I'm also reading "How the Irish Saved Civilization: The Untold Story of Ireland's Heroic Role from the Fall of Rome to the Rise of Medieval Europe" by Thomas Cahill. Also very good and enjoying it immensely!
I've just started "Blood Memory" by Greg Iles. It's about a forensic odontologist (a specialist in bite marks)in New Orleans. Besides her self-medication with alcohol, she's been taking meds like Lexapro (for depression) & Depakote (for impulse control). But she's quit all of that (just using a little valium to ease her through the withdrawals after she had a case of the dt's). But after a panic attack at one crime scene, and passing out at the next, she's been taken off the case she was working with the local police & FBI. So she decides to go back to her parents home to get through it. I'm not sure what happens next, but from the bit of the jacket blurb I read, it appears that she discovers a murder that took place there. Funny how this is the 2nd or 3rd book I've read in the last week or so that turned out to involve some kind of mental illness (besides serial killers), at the time that we're dealing with that issue at home. Strange how life works, isn't it? Things kind of get sent to you when you need them.
Anyway, after I finish this, I have a big stack of library books, most of them by authors I heard about either here or the Mystery/Suspense board. I'm looking forward to discovering some new authors.
I'm reading The House on Hope Street by Danielle Steel right now. I'm not enjoying it as much as I usually do her books. The story is about a couple with 5 children and a joint law firm. The husband dies on Christmas Day, and the wife is trying to struggle through with the kids by herself. It seems that nothing has really "happened" since the husband dies, so it's kind of boring. Next I think I'm going to read a couple of older Nora Roberts books I have laying around, I can't remember the titles, I think they're Captivated and Entranced. They're part of a series I started that I really enjoyed so far. About 4 cousins who all have special powers. It's cute, quick reads.
I'm reading _The Lightkeeper's Daughter_by Iain Lawrence. It's a YA book (of course). I just started it. It's about a 17yo girl who returns to the lighthouse island she lived on with her parents. She has a 2yo (haven't found out the circumstances of the birth yet) and I also know she lost her brother a few years back. I just started it so I don't know much else. I read all my YA literature at work, but at home I try to read grown-up stuff. I just brought home _1984_ by George Orwell. I'm going to re-read it. I first read it as a junior in HS. I decided to read it again b/c sometimes I feel like this is how the world is going TODAY!

Hi,
I am currently reading "Vanishing Acts" by Jodi Picoult. For me it is moving very slow and I don't think it measures up to her other books! Sue

Finally, after a long wait, Robert Crais returns with "The Forgotten Man"...in his PI series featuring Elvis Cole and Joe Pike, set in Los Angeles.

Happy Easter everyone!

I'm almost finished with Vanishing Acts by Jodi Picoult. It is very good and very thought provoking.
