Stephanie Plum, Janet Evanovich's hapless bounty hunter, and her crazy friends, is a treat I also "save" for that rare reading slump, restlessness, or when I'm feeling low :)
Reading about her wild adventures always cheers me up and gets me laughing my head off.
Secret Life of Bees is on my list too. I also have East of Eden on my TBR shelf. Sometimes I go out of my way not to read a book that has a lot of hype. And then I usually give in after the hoopla has died down. Five People You Meet in Heaven was one of those titles. So glad I got to it though- it is worthy of it's place on any list:)
Really appreciate the discussion here. Will try Evanovich & Plum. I can use a few pick-me-up books!! I read the Da Vinci code & was really disappointed. I think I'm one of the few people who confessed that they did not think it is a great book. I agree that the hype is usually a good sign that a book is not very good. 'Bees tho' is one of my all time favs & I will probably read it again this summer. This time I will savor the language. Thanks, book pals, dee

Dee,
The Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich each begin (the title) with a number...i.e., #1 is "One for the Money", #2 is "Two for the ...".
