How many books do you read?

I just heard that the average reader reads five books a year. I think everyone here is probably far above average. I have already read four times that many books this year and we are only 1/3 of the way through.

I probably read 5 books a month. Some months more, some less. I've been working on 'Reading Lolita In Tehran' for about a week and a half. I only have a few pages left, but it was a dense book. Not that many pages, but contained a lot of material to think about. It takes me longer to read a book like that and sometimes I have to take a break part way through and read something else then get back to it. After this book I will take a short break and then start some light reading. I'm probably the slowest reader in my family. My ex was a rapid reader and I think that both kids read faster than either of us. My daughter was the one I was worried about because she didn't learn to read until first grade. Then when she caught on she read like crazy and she is now the fastest reader in the family.

I ussed to be able to read a lot more than I do right now but life has a way of distractin gme:) I try to read a book a week- depending on my time and the book I can usually slip another book in so that I read on average 5 a month. I remember when I used to read a book every couple of days. Course sometimes I had three going at once:)

Short quick books are one of my favorite reads...I love finding these "shorties" of various genres to slip in for a change of scene between books.

Gosh, I've been known to read that many books in a week! Ok, they were all light reads, but still... I too got slowed way down with "Reading Lolita in Tehran" & did take a break halfway through, with "Eat Cake" by Jeanne Ray which I was reading for another board. A very good light read, by the way. Anyway, I would guess that I normally get through 9-10 books a month, if not more. Guess I need to get a life (and a cleaner house).

Oh, wow. I have been known to read five books in one DAY (though not too often, as this is just asking for a splitting headache :) ). I have, once in a while, read a book in the space of two days, rather than in one, and when I was a kid it took me three whole days to read It by Stephen King. When I lay my hands upon a book I haven't read yet, it's usually devoured in short order. But since I don't get a new book every day, I have to make up the slack with rereads...I would guess, counting rereads, I read an average of four to five books a week.

On an average month I'd say I read between 3-5 books.

5 books? that is being illiterate... but it explains how do normal folks find the time to get in trouble.
I guess my rate is about 1 to 2 a week - but it is irregular. I also read lots of magazines, and if I haven't any reading material will read the instructions taped to the door for the fire escape!

There are books that take me much, much longer, some that I read in bits and pieces, knowing I want to get back at them. I am now on Terzani - the forbidden door, on CHina (am going to beijing next month for work), and am planning next. I often have several books on the go, to read as the mood strike, light, deep, sad...
