Hi All,

I have about 30 pages to go "The Known World" by Edward P. Jones. This is the book that Oprah said "everyone" should read. It is a Pulitzer Prize Winner!! It takes place in the mid-eighteen hundreds down south. The story centers around a black farmer and former slave. He dies and leaves his estate to his widow. I really can see why it won the Pulitzer. It's a saga and a damn good one at that!!!!! Sue

It is good, isn't it? I read the Known World a few months ago and just loved it...recommending it to everyone I know.

Oooo Teri...nice signature! Too cute!

I'm almost finished Flowers For Algernon by Daniel Keyes. It's about a developmentally challenged man named Charlie, who has an IQ of 68 and undergoes an experimental procedure (brain surgury) to increase his intellegence. Algernon is the lab mouse that had undergone the same procedure, with amazing results. Charlie's procedure is a success and within weeks, his intelligence surpasses that of his doctors. Unfortunately, Algernon's (the mouse) progress begins to deteriorate, leading Charlie to believe the same will happen to him.

The book is excellent and is written as if it were Charlie writing his own memoirs. I'd recommend it. FYI... Flowers For Algernon was made into a movie in the late 60's (or early 70's) and the movie was called Charlie. I think Cliff Robertson played Charlie.

Next, I'm going to start either ""The Centre of Everything" by Laura Moriarty or "Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal" by Christopher Moore.

Julie, is this the series with the wild and crazy guy who lives in an old warehouse that he has booby-trapped against intruders with explosives and all kinds of crazy contraptions?
