Hi! As Teri said, I'm Ann and I am a rabid BookCrosser! I've been a member there since November of 2002 and have hundreds of books in my "bookshelf" and have released 200-some, and have "caught" about 100. Those numbers surprise even me, but I got them off my bookshelf info, so I guess they'd know, lol.
Basically, you sign up on the site at www.bookcrossing.com - they walk you through the process, and it's painless, lol (tell them Wordyone sent you and I get credit!).
Then you go through your books and any you don't care to keep, you register on the site (they have a link that will walk you through it). You'll get a number to put in the book, and a note to go to www.bookcrossing.com and tell where it was found is a handy touch, and it goes into your bookshelf. Then at some point, you take your book someplace - doctor's waiting rooms and grocery stores are good - and ... leave it there! I put a sticker on the front of the book saying it's free (you can buy preprinted stickers (and everything else) in the BC store, but you can also make your own). Then... if you're lucky, someone takes your book home and goes to the site (as per the instructions) and you'll get an email telling you your book was found! ...I don't get a lot of those from "wild" releases (when I leave it somewhere as opposed to sending it to someone), but it's a thrill when it does happen!
I'm so nuts about it, I'll go to rummage sales and buy up books I have no intention of reading, just to put into BookCrossing, lol! (dh thinks I'm nuts)
And... if there's a book you want, you can search BookCrossing for members who have it available, PM them through the site (totally anonymous - no one knows your email unless you tell it to them) and ask for it! It's a good idea to offer to trade from your shelf for it, or offer to send them some stamps, but many times they'll send it to you without a trade or postage - what is called a RABCK - Random Act of Book Crossing Kindness. I've done some, but most of the time there's something in their shelf I can trade for.
BookCrossing spans the globe! I've sent books to - and gotten books from - several countries, including Canada, France, Spain, Iran, Brazil and Romania!
Okay, I've probably confused you completely now. Feel free to go to my bookshelf (in the link below) and click All Books. Then browse around and see the categories, and read some journal entries (and if you notice a lot of my books go to Lumia, it's because she's my daughter, LOL!) Then, if you have any questions, I'd be glad to answer as best I can. Or if you just want to know more about me (I'm the leader of the Movies board (promo below, hint, hint, lol), I'm pretty much an open book, too. Ask me anything!

Hi Ann!
Wow, *great info*!!
When you release your first book, let me know how it went.
I've had times when people see me leave it and try (very hard) to give it back! The last book I left was in the dentist's waiting room, and someone saw it on the table before I could leave. Even though it has a yellow sticker saying "I'm FREE! Take me home!" They asked me if it was my book. I just said "No, it's not mine. It looks like it's free. You should take it...." LOL! I don't know if they did or not, but it was gone when I got done with my check up. Sometimes it seems giving someone something is looked on as suspicious! Like it's some sort of trick or something! That's why, whenever I can, I leave the book without being seen! (Speaking of leaving books, DON'T leave a book at an airport. Unattended packages in airports or on planes - especially ones that say "FREE! Open me!" - have been known to be seen as a threat and SWAT teams have been called (or so I hear).

<Hi Ann!
I am also a member of bookcrossing.com but not very active I'm afraid. They have monthly meeting but the group is a little too far away from me that I can have hopes of making one.
I left a book once also and had someone try to give it back. LOL
Maybe I'll have to stop in and check things out- it has been a very... very long time
You can find me under maggie_the_cat
Welcome to our board
I am now an official member of Bookcrossing.com!
Congrats on joining us!!!

<Ann, with the pics of the books next to the title... are the members responsible for scanning/finding the book cover pics and hosting them themselves?
