Sort of a mix, I guess. I definitely commit to authors I like & will read everything of theirs that I can find. But I also enjoy looking for someone new....my favorites just can't keep up with my reading habits. LOL Of course, thanks to these boards, it's me that can't keep up with all the great authors I'm hearing about!
One thing that's come from these boards is I have started keeping a reading journal of sorts. I have listings of what books I've read & a TBR list. This is a great help - I often have read a book or two from an author, then forgotten the author's name. Sometimes I'll manage to remember one of the titles, but not always. With any author, I like to go back to the beginning & read forward...to see the writer's development, if not certain characters. But if it is a stand-alone, I may pick it up off the new releases shelf & try it, then go back for earlier books by the author.

I guess I'm a loose kinda girl...I play the field...BIG TIME!
But, I do have my favourites and will read almost anything by them. I sprinkle them in between all the others, and I try to keep a journal.

Must admit for the most part I am a type B personality. I do read other authors but I tend to get on a roll with an author until I've read everything I can get my hands on. which is why I have lots of books on my shelf that I haven't quite dared to delve into. When the books aren't in order I just read as I can find, or sometimes I use the list of books at the front of the book. I think they usually flow in the order written. It it's a series- usually mystery I use the Stop You're Killing Me site a lot!
Right now I'm reading a lot of diverse books with no one particular author. Am waiting for lots of new books by favorite authors though
Do you (A) "Play the Field" and read as many different authors as possible, ....... or ......
(B) "Commit" by identifying certain favorite authors and concentrate on reading all or most of their titles?
If (B), how do you keep track of one author's list of published books and if you've read a book?
I'm a committer! lol. I find certain authors that I just love and try to read as many of their books as possible.
I keep a reading journal, but I also keep lists at the back of my favorite authors and every time I read one of their novels I write it down. Alternately some of them I keep lists of the books I have not read. For instance I've read 55 of Danielle Steel's 63 books, so now it's easier to just mark down the ones I haven't read.
As far as what order I read them in it depends. If it's a series I try to read them in order, but I can't always get them that way from the Library or whatever. So like with the Stephanie Plum books, I've skipped allover the place, and it doesn't bother me!

I'm on a mission to be a "Commit" reader, with lots of wiggle room for playing the field.
Alright, alright.. I'll admit it, I'm running a book brothel here.
Teri,
I am a definite "A". I love to try new authors especially first time novels. There are a couple of authors that I like such as Jodi Picoult. I like to try all different types of writing and love to read reviews and make lists of authors. Sue
