Here's a big hello and Welcome to our Newcomers...and an invitation to any lurkers to c'mon out and introduce yourselves!

The board is a friendly gathering of avid readers....many of us like to vary our genres.

Please tell us a bit about yourself and/or any favorite authors, genres, what you're reading these days...

And please feel welcome to post a new topic if you like!

Hi!!! My name is Heather and I LOVE to raed! (that is when I'm not mixing up letters, typoing and making my own words. LOL)

I saw a link to this board elsewhere and had to come check it out!

I'm originally from Oregon, but I have been living in Finland for the last 6 years. I live here with my Finnish BF and two furball cats.

I am a die-hard Anne Rice fan. I've read every single book she has written, plus her short stories.

But right now I am so madly in love with Jamie Fraser from Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series.. What I wouldn't do for a red-headed Scottish guy in a kilt right now.. *blush*

I also like Piers Anthony, Anne McCaffery, Anne Rice's sister and son and so much more...

Happy Reading!

Thanx for the warm welcome Teri!

I noticed there are a few Oregonians on here. Too Cool!

I ended up in Finland after I met my Finnish boyfriend. We had originally met on an online (dungeons & dragons type game, a MUD), chatted a bit..and then he was in San Diego for New Years '98/'99 visiting some other friends from the same game. They had a family emergency and he didn't want to stay at their place alone, so my then-BF and I suggested he come visit. He visited for 48 hours, it was fun and then went back home.

Things ended up (continued..?) to go bad/get worse with my then BF..so I decided I needed a holiday..1 month in Finland to be exact...and well..as Paul Harvey would say: "that's the rest of the story".

I moved to Finland a year later (after a few trips back and forth on both of our parts). It is now almost 6 years later and I am still here. I've almost finished my Bachelors in International Business and I'm working for a good Finnish company (with potential for my future..if I so choose).

And, we have all 4 seasons here. Spring has started only a month ago at the most..
Allergies started about 2 weeks ago for me. So many birch trees here. UGH!

The days are getting lighter and longer and it is finally warm! (almost 70F / 17-18C so far for a day or so). I love summer here!

Hi Kris,

Thanks for the welcome!
I'm from the south and on the coast originally.. North Bend/Coos Bay.

The world really is quite small.. It is funny how before I went to Finland I didn't know anyone from there, barely knew where it was and had no idea what it was like. Now, my family and I know a few people in our tiny home town that have either been to Finland or have Finnish roots.. I think my family has a better idea of where it is at (location-wise). And, I know tons about Finland itself. *grin*

Plus, I've met a few Oregonians here in Finland as well. Although, I haven't met anyone here that I have known from back home yet..

Hi, Heather and welcome! I actually visited Finland and Sweden several years ago for a business trip. Although the food left a lot to be desired, Helsinki was just beautiful...and VERY cold in January. I lost 4 lbs in a week between shivering and starving. LOL!

I hope you enjoy the board and find lots of new ideas for your TBR list. Welcome.

P.S. My daughter LOVES the jumping frog in your siggy! Very cute.

Thanx for the welcome Beth!

What didn't you like about Finnish food??! I am perfectly happy here with it. Although, I won't go anywhere near the "mustamakkara" (black sausage=made of blood. EEEEWWW!!!!)

And, yes, it is cold in January! LOL. Although, this year wasn't so cold as far as Januarys go.. (but too cold for people not used to it)

Glad your daughter likes my froggie.. I think she has great taste! *wink*

I worked for a very well-appointed company who spared no expense for anything (at least before the dot com bubble burst!) and we had beautifullly catered food. It was all just too salty for me. Actually, the one thing I really enjoyed (aside from the wonderful vodka and berry drink...yum!) was the reindeer. It was delicious, but I did have a bit of trouble enjoying it right after Christmas.

I don't know much about Finnish food but I know one thing my friend Becky misses about Finland is the bread...she said they make the best dark bread in the world!

EEPS is right.. I think you must have had some American caterers or at least they thought they were trying to cater to American tastes, because in all the time I have been here, I've only ran into one or two places that was too salty.

And now tht I have been in Finland so long..American food is way to salty for me!! I can actually taste the differences my BF can and understand what he is/was talking about all those years ago.

Oh..reindeer.. that's a special treat!
Special berry drink? Currants? Glögi?
