<Of all the characters I've read over the years, the closest I identify is with Sue Grafton's Kinsey Millhone. Independent, stubborn, private, likes a man in her life but can live without one just fine, curious enough to not stop till she finds the answer she wants/needs, and finds humor in everyday living.

<Great question! To answer well, I'd have to think hard of all my favorite books and heroines. At first thought, right now I'd probably choose Hermione. She's one of the main characters of the Harry Potter books. She is cute, smart and just a lot of fun. She'd be fun to be for awhile.
By the way, Kris, I had a terrific time in Portland. We went there on a Saturday and spent the afternoon patrolling NW 23rd. And that was only one side of a few blocks! Oh well, left some for next time. Went back to Salem and had a small dinner with a few friends. I sure miss living there! I still think about moving back at some point. We didn't get to Powells, much to my disappointment. She said she wasn't about to drive her new Volvo into that awful parking garage in the building and I agree with her. Not sure I'd want to put my Taurus in there either. Then you're stuck with street parking and that's a hard one. You just have to keep driving around until someone leaves. I do know why I usually prefer to shop by myself! When shopping with someone else, you end up spending most of the time where the other person wants to shop and very little where you want to. At least I do. Everytime I spent awhile somewhere she'd complain about not having anywhere to sit and I felt like I had to hurry up. It didn't work that way in the shops she was interested in. I think she spent an hour in Momma Ro's and another hour in Illuminations. I enjoyed looking, too, but not for that long. But I'm looking forward to the next visit which is in October. I get together with 6 other gals I used to be friends with and we spend a few days at the beach in Pacific City. So I'm looking forward to that.
I've been having this brewing around in the back of my mind since I posted it and I think I relate best to the little girl Scout in "To Kill a Mockingbird."
