In the middle of the day, do you immediately (or as soon as possible) pick up another?

I try to time my reading so that I finish a book at night, not long before bed, and can then start fresh in the morning

It all depends on how good the book was. If it was good I usually wait a day, if it wasn't, then I'll start another practically right away. If I have books that are in a series, I always read them straight through. You know, between the bathroom breaks and quick sips of water:) ~Joey

That's something I don't do, really, unless I'm trying to get caught up with the series.

I'm usually reading one or more books, but do find that I like to start a new one after getting settled in bed in the evening. The anticipation stays with me during the day and it's a relief to begin whatever novel awaits. Once I do that it actually helps relax me enough to get to sleep earlier knowing there's fresh material. If I start a new one in the morning or during lunchtime, for some reason I can't stay focused. Probably because I know there are errands and other things to do, i.e. work. If a pile of books gets checked out of the library, oh woe! It's tough not stopping to take in a few pages of each book! But then who says bookaholics have to be disciplined?

Hmmm...I think I'd have to stay up half the night if I started a book just before bed

Great question! I always have a back up book as soon as I get near the last few chpaters of the book I'm reading. The hard part for me is the deciding which book to read next. I think I spent a good twenty minutes last night pondering my book shleves before making a choice and this morning I'm not sure it's the one I really want. So I'll browse again and of course I have plans for a book store this afternoon wo who knows what I'll come home with:) Sometimes I have more than one book going at a time. Right now I'm reading "Come Spring" for a book group I;ve joined but it's such a large book and mine is not in the best of shape so I'm only reading it at home. So that means I have book number two for travel:)

If he likes A Series of Unfortunate Events he would probably like Roald Dahl books such as _Matilda_ and _George's Marevelous Medicine_ Dahl has that same warped, dark, sense of humor.

If he likes Harry Potter he might like a series of books by Ibbotson, one of which is _Dial a witch _ I'm not sure which one comes first in the series.

And for Artemis Fowl--he might like a series called The Underland Chronicles by Suzanne Collins. I just read the first one with my ds (he is almost 10) and they are a mix of fantasy and adventure. They had gross giant sized cockroaches and spiders and I think boys generally like this sort of stuff, but I was kind of grossed out. I read _Gregor, the overlander_ with him. I believe that it is the first in the series. It was selected as one of our state books this year. In CT where I live, as in many states, a library group selects outstanding titles for kids every year and holds a contest where the kids are encouraged to read as many as they can and then vote for their favorite.

I hope this helps. I chose books in a series so if he likes one there is more to come. Let me know if he reads any of them and what he thinks.

Yeah, that's a problem for me, too.
