Jackie posted this in another thread:

This particular library has to keep their Stephen King and Dean Koontz books behind the desk because of repeated thefts

Does anyone else's library "secure" certain books?

Great quote!

One of the libraries I have a card with (the biggest of them) has the books bar-coded and you have to walk through security things (like at the mall, KWIM?) when you leave, so if you would attempt a theft, the alarm would sound.

The other (3) libraries don't have that - maybe because of smaller budgets - but the one I mentioned was the only one in which I've seen signs saying that you have to request books from the desk.

Hmm... Not that I know of, but it's probably not a bad idea!
