Has anyone read any of her stuff- she wrote Drinking: a love story and a book called Appetites- about anorexia (which I have not read)... but she also has a HILARIOUS collection about her alter-ego named Alice K.... just wondering if others out there have been so moved by author. She is dead, which is terribly unfortunate for obvious reasons- but just curious about her popularity....

Welcome to the board, NotSoFar:

We're glad you found us and thanks for posting!

Caroline Knapp's "Pack of Two: The Intricate Bond Between People & Dogs" is a particularly memorable book about dogs that I read years ago.

HI!

Thanks for your message... I actually just requested both the dog book and the merry recluse from my library- i hope they come in soon....

i am an avid reader that has many favorites including; tom robbins, tc boyle, john grisham (like crack), david sedaris, bill bryson, richard russo, carl hiassen... basically anything fiction and funny with a biting wit... I do read other titles and other authors- but seem to gravitate to authors like these.

how about you... do we share any interests that you see thus far? I am new to the message boards- but i welcome the opportunity to make new friends and chat about one of my biggest passions- reading!

YES, I am a *huge* David Sedaris fan (I have only "Naked" and maybe one older book left to read).

Wow! Yes we have previous books in common- that is so nice... I absolutely love to read. Right now I am reading a collection of short stories by Caroline Knapp entitled Alice K's guide to life (or something like that)... when not reading- I am listening to David Sedaris's book Barrel Fever on cd! I was listening this morning on my way to work and I was wishing my commute was longer than the 20 minutes it generally takes.... the big question for me is what will I read next- do you have a title that you can recommend that is a MUST read for everyone??? (no pressure)

TC Boyle is amazing- there is only one book I couldn't get into- Riven Rock?! Funny that this is the one you could get through...budding prospects, drop city, they are all good.

Richard Russo- STRAIGHT MAN!!!! that is all i have to say... then get into all the others- slowly- i really like his style (not as humorous as my other favorites).

AMS- I just finished the detective agency and have read one of the sunday philosphy club (at least I think that was the title- have there been more than one?)

--------------

I wish I had more Carl Hiassen books to read- but I have read a lot- actually talking with you has inspired me to log into my library and make some requests!
