Where has your current reading taken you geographic-wise and time period-wise?

John Steinbeck has taken me to the early 1900's, to a peaceful and fertile farming community

Well, I'm already well-traveled this summer.

First I was all over places in Eastern Europe and even into Turkey over a span of about 500 years reading Elizabeth Kostova's novel The Historian, about the search for Dracula.

Then I was in modern day New York City, 1920s-1930s Poland, and 1940s South America for The History of Love by Nicole Krauss.

Now I'm in one place in one time period: 1920s San Francisco with Mary Russell and her husband Sherlock Holmes investigating murders in Locked Rooms by Laurie King.

Next I'll be going to Chicago where V.I. Warshawski is solving her latest mystery.

Oh, I love summer.

I send greetings from Queen Mary's court in London. This is a very unstable time and I'm a little nervous. My father and I fled Spain after my mother was burned at the stake during the Inquisition. We thought we would be safe in Protestant England, but now that Mary has taken over the throne, England is once again Catholic and she is having heretics burned at the stake. I guess that's how she got the nickname Bloody Mary. This is from The Queen's Fool by Philippa Gregory.

I am in many places at the same time...
I am in Kaboul - it is an unsafe time. Time to flee, looking for freedom. Time to build again. I am in the Kite Runner.

I am in Istanbul - short story mix. I want to go there next fall.

I am in Dubai. this is my next biz flight, and I am reading up on it. ;)

I just finished A Thread of Grace, by Mary Doria Russell. It is set in Italy during WWII. Awesome book.
