I love biographies, true crimes and yes misskris, political stories. I've read many but what comes to mind is Presidential Wives. Also

I love biographies of female historical figures too! I'm looking for a good one of Eleanor of Aquitaine. I've recently read biographies of Cleopatra, Mary I of England (Bloody Mary), Elizabeth I of England, and Lucrezia Borgia. I've also read Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, Harriet Jacob's autobiography.

Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl is one of my favorite books. Extremely powerful. What I like about Yellin's biography of Harriet Jacobs is that she is able to fill in the rest of the story. It took years of research. The first part of her book is a great mini-detective story as she tells how she tracked down the real Harriet Jacobs.

I thought I saw somewhere that there is a new dual biography of Elizabeth and Mary. Have you read that?

Oooh, I HAVE actually read that, if it's the one I'm thinking of:

It was pretty good--it was a different perspective on them both, and since I haven't read a Mary Queen of Scots biography specifically, only via Elizabeth I biographies, it was fascinating learning about her. A lot of her letters did survive.
