Hello, I'm not sure where I followed a link from to this board but have been lurking. I already know a couple of you. I hope no minds my joining in.

I'm currently reading Probable Future by Alice Hoffman. It's about the Sparrow family in which the women upon their 13 birthday receive an unusual gift. Like being able to tell when someone lies or feel no pain. The story revolves around the relationships of three of the Sparrow women. The youngest, Stella, lands her father in jail by confiding what her "gift" is and asking for his help.

This forces the three women to live in the Sparrow's ancestral home where they are forced to deal with their difficult relationships with one another.

Next up will be Alfie by Bill Naughton.

Typically I read general fiction. However, I love picking up a book someone has suggested that I might not have picked up on my own and then absolutely loving it.

I have probably close to 100 books that I own and need TBR. *blush* I got carried away with those book club offers through double day, literary guild, smart readers rewards, and book of the month club. I'm trying to go on a book buying freeze. However, I did just buy PS I love You and The Analyst. I had bought a non-fiction "business" book from Amazon and wanted to get "super saver shipping" so I had to buy some more stuff. ;o)

The TBR I have on deck and planned are: Alfie, Little Earthquakes, Cane River, and The Poisonwood Bible.

Yep, I had the same predicament @ Amazon recently ... but what the heck, I "needed" the books, and who could turn down super saver shipping!

I'm on a book buying freeze myself -- again -- but I've come across a book I simply MUST buy ("A Path & A Practice") ... and I'm pretty sure I'll end up with a few more to get free shipping, LOL!

I'm reading a quick non-f, "A Year by the Sea: Thoughts of an Unfinished Woman" by Joan Anderson.

This is a chronicle of the author's life at the point where her kids are grown and gone, she's feeling a distance between her and her husband ... and he suddenly announces he's got a job in a different city.
