Finishing up Earthly Joys by Philippa Gregory then on to god in Alabama by Joshilyn Jackson. Jackson says that Harper Lee is her writing hero, so I'm hoping for the best.
Cane River is one of my favorite books. The first time I read it, I read it through non-stop. A couple years later I reread it at a slower pace. Incredibly interesting.
DH and I are planning a trip to Louisiana for our 5th anniversary - we went to New Orleans for our honeymoon and are planning to go back there for a few days and take a few days to explore the countryside as well. In my preliminary research, I found the Cane River Creole National Historic Park, which is in Natchitoches, LA. After reading the book Cane River, I had a real desire to go through that area and figured our trip would be a perfect time to work it in. I was very pleased to find that there is a historic park dedicated to the creole history of the area.
The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants by Ann Brasheres. Last month I talked to a woman on a plane who was reading it and she said it was a lot of fun, so I put it on hold a the library and picked it up earlier this week. I am currently reading the latest Harry Potter and will start on the Pants when I finish.
I've read a lot of Anne Rice's stuff, so when we went to New Orleans, I was in absolute heaven - LOL. It was so great to actually see the places where things in the book took place. A big part of the Witching Hour took place in her house, which is located in the Garden District. We went by there, and it was really cool to see the house. It came up for sale last year and OMG, I had fantasies about buying it!
Right now I'm Reading Darkly Dreaming Dexter and am REALLY enjoying it! So much so I want to go right out and buy the 2nd one (Dearly Devoted Dexter)! But I honestly should get started on The Five People You Meet in Heaven (Albom) I'm reading it for reading group, and they meet next week!
I have that sitting next to my bed right now! A friend of mine brought it to the pool the other day. There were 4 of us there. We had a great discussion about it, and I can't wait to get into the book more!
Just this a.m. I saw an ad for the cover of "Dearly Devoted Dexter" by Jeff Lindsay - - the outline of a stick figure on a gallows ~gulp~ (Now THERE's an eye catching cover!).
After reading your post, I see that there's a feature interview with the author about Dexter Morgan in Bookpage Mag.
