You've commited to reading a book for a book club, or maybe you're taking a class and it's requred reading. But you'ld much rather be reading the latest book recommended by your ABC friends. You've started the book but it just isn't doing it for you. So, what do you do?

This is why I'm not a good group read or club participant! If I don't like it or I'm bored, I CAN'T keep reading it. The same sort of goes for a class, but there's a coercion element there, lol, as in grades. I will try to soldier through it so I don't get an F but I will be cranky and I will also sneakily surf the net looking for Cliff's Notes.

I would put it aside and try again later. Sometimes just picking up a quick fun read can do the trick. I've learned that sometimes coming back to it later can be well worth it.

If a book isn't holding my interest, be it for a book board or for enjoyment, I bag it!

If it was required for a class, I'd probably take a short break and read something light before picking it up again.

In those instances, I switch back and forth. Read some of the required reading till I can't take it anymore then switch to my recreation book. Tearing away from it is always hard but flipping back and forth like that seems to work.
